Length of Ceremony

It is your day! Civil Ceremonies usually take about 20 - 30 minutes to complete, including the signing of certificates.

Legal Requirements

Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) documentation must be completed at least one month and one day before the ceremony. If you are overseas, forward the completed Notice and relevant legal documents to me, signed by yourselves and witnessed by a relevant authority (see Page 4 of the Notice of Intended Marriage for appropriate witnesses), otherwise I prefer to co-sign when we meet before the wedding.
The NOIM is valid for 18 months so it is a good idea to have it lodged with me - sooner rather than later.

A Special Marriage Statutory Declaration must be signed with the celebrant prior to the wedding stating that you know of no reason why you should not marry the other person. This meeting may include a rehearsal at your chosen venue.

I will confirm your identity and we will check and sign any outstanding legal documents.

I will conduct a sincere simple ceremony and the bride and groom exchange the marriage vows of their choice.

I encourage couples to at least choose or write their Vows. The Vows are the legal requirement of the wedding ceremony. They must start with:

"I call upon the persons here present to witness that I, Mary, take you John, to be my lawful wedded husband/wife"

Your own choice of words may follow.

Two witnesses are required to sign the marriage certificates.

The bride and groom are presented with their marriage certificate. The wedding certificate presented to the bride and groom on their wedding day is a presentation one only.

After the wedding the NOIM and the certificate signed just before the wedding and witnessed on the day are sent by the celebrant to the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages in the state where your marriage was solemnised - then your marriage is listed legally.

If you then require a legal certificate you can apply for one from Births, Deaths & Marriages as you would for a Birth Certificate. It is important to do this fairly soon after your wedding as you may in time move interstate or overseas.

Venue Suggestions

Country vistas, your own home, gardens, lake or stunning local venues are all very popular (such as Lake House, Convent Gallery, Sault, Bellinzona, Lavandula, Peppers Springs Retreat, etc.), however it would be advisable to check with the local council regarding fees for outdoor venues.

If you are having an outdoor wedding, it is advisable to have an alternative indoor venue in case of inclement weather.

Note: Should your wedding be late in the day, determine the sunset time to ensure sufficient light for document signing and photography, or arrange for alternative lighting.

Do we have to attend any pre-marital courses?

This is your choice. I do have all the information regarding this should you wish to attend. Most couples who have taken advantage of this course, have gained a lot of insight and confidence in their marriage.

Thank you for using my services. I do hope I can help you!
